Are USES= libtool entries really correct?

Not too fond of having firmware/roms in ports as they tend to be a relatively frequently moving target and go stale in repos

Can't reproduce this either using Poudriere (devel) and 14.0-RELEASE with both X11 toggled on and off using testport

You need to use bugzilla for the patch to land even without maintainer feedback

Why do we need both versions in tree?

I also think Python bytecode files needs to go.

That's a "last resort" solution, use release tarballs/archives whenever possible.
