I tested the patch, and am using virtualbox compiled with this patch and everything works fine.

Why the change in MASTER_SITE? The project home page, when clicking on downloads still links to the https://pwmt.org/projects/girara/download/girara-0.3.4.tar.xz URL, so why not follow what upstream does?

I forgot, there is also no need to bump geany PORTREVISION, since you're only adding a non default option. No need to force rebuilding the package/reinstalling.
Thanks for the patch. I'll commit it later, only changing the RUN_DEPENDS line.
