It has not been installed since commit cdc37953165c ("In preparation for
the removal of the roff toolchain, disconnect the") and turned up in
a search for outdated MALLOC_OPTIONS settings.

I understand how you got here, and I do not object to this review.

But I do question your criteria :-)

I agree that the phkmalloc paper has not applied to FreeBSD-current for a LONG time.

But relengr is about release engineering for 4.3-1BSD on that VAX-11 around 1990 ?

And diskperf is about 8" SMD disks attached to a VAX-11 in 1983 ?

Even my jail, timecounter and devfs papers are at best contextual historical information at this point.

Isn't it time to remove all of src/doc/share/papers with a commit message of: "See Papers.FreeBSD.org instead."

These haven't been *installed* for quite some time, so this is only about tidying up the src tree. I agree that there isn't much value in having any of these largely historical papers in the tree and will likely look at all of them. But my preference is to do them one by one, and ideally link to each.
