Summary

Noting a significant enhancement: freebsd-update(8) allows automated creation of snapshots of boot environments.

Test Plan

https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=263303#c0 (2022-04-15) suggested the release note.

For not using Phabricator sooner: my apologies. (I'm accustomed to a GitHub workflow e.g. https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-doc/pull/72/files, but I sometimes struggle, for hours, with Git at the command line.)

I assume that this enhancement does belong under Userland Application Changes – true?

Since there's work towards describing ZFS boot environments as a feature of FreeBSD https://reviews.freebsd.org/D35823, shall we:

  1. abandon this D35213
  2. instead, work a little more into D35823?

Abandon this?

Similarly, release notes for 12.3R did not mention the automation.

Unexpected loss of free space has taken some users by surprise.
