The Makefile doesn't seem right. These chapters should not be removed.

The PO translation has only a single file, the top-level book.xml or article.xml. See https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/fdp-primer/po-translations-creating.html.

I see some added spaces in the translated strings in the PO file, mostly around punctuation. For instance, on line 121:

#. (itstool) path: abstract/para
#: book.translate.xml:140
msgid ""
"This primer covers details needed to start contributing to the FreeBSD "
"Documentation Project, or <acronym>FDP</acronym>, including tools, software, "
"and the philosophy behind the Documentation Project."
msgstr ""
"本入手書內容包括:如何開始著手貢獻FreeBSD 文件計劃 (簡稱: <acronym>FDP</"
"acronym> )的各項細節,以及會用到的一些工具、軟體 ,以及文件計畫的宗旨。"

In the last line, note the space after acronym>. That might be standard local usage, though.

Yes. We are used to have space between Chinese and English characters so that it won't look crowding.
