Not sure why this is opened in Phabricator and not bugzilla and I'm kinda leaning towards not until we have a majority of local patches submitted (and preferably reviewed) upstream rather than keep ploughing on. Additionally there's no mentioning on any testing as far as consumers go.
Well we have 2 issues.
Samba 4.16 is EOL for years.
4.23 and 4.24 are still maintained (well 4.23 will be EOL soon).
Most of serious samba users have in their make.conf
DEFAULT_VERSIONS+= samba=4.23
Or
DEFAULT_VERSIONS+= samba=4.24
So the reason of that is to ask for consensus about the version we can set per default and deprecate 4.16, 4.19, 4.20 and 4.22 (and slave ports).
@kiwi
You have so far not answered any concerns what the actual plan is moving forward / how to address them more than "I want to push this".
You may want to have an exp-run to see what's broken with the update, and decide wether the broken bits are dead, or can be fixed.
