I'm not actually sure what the \\$4 means, but .ND allows an explicit date string to be specified. I thought about using SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH, but it would require some work in share/mk/bsd.doc.mk and I don't expect us to be adding more of this form of documentation in the future, so a small change in the source file itself seems reasonable.
