I think this is who you meant. In this case, I am not using the mailto: macro as unfortunately he is dead, so it does not makes sense to use a link to send him an email. Still, remembering his FreeBSD username might be useful.

"through to" looks OK to me, in the sense of "all stages from the loader to the kernel, inclusively". I'm not sure what stages there are besides the loader and the kernel though, if not modules that need to be running before the kernel can start init (eg, zfs if using ZFS-on-root).

Clarification request in addition to salvadore's edit suggestion: do you mean the FreeBSD Handbook (for users and sysadmins) or the FreeBSD Developer's Handbook?
