Could you please try to get that applied upstream first?

I plan to file a bug report with upstream about the issue concurrently with applying the patch locally. I do not plan to wait for upstream to respond before committing the patch locally.

I would at first report this upstream and then apply the patch here.
But please feel free to commit it if you want to do it the other way around.
