This looks like a good idea to me.

Also, the MAN<sect> deprecation warning doesn't make sense to me.

MAN${a}_ALT=            it more, obsoleted by staging

DEV_WARNING+=   "${a} is deprecated, please use ${${a}_ALT}"

"MAN1 is deprecated, please use it more." Shouldn't we encourage people to use deprecated things less?
