| 9–15 | It's (superficially) counterintuitive to recommend installing Node 24, then tell users that anything newer than Node 20 could cause problems. I understand it's a tough call for you because we don't have node20 in the ports tree, and this is upstream's recommendation. I did a bit of digging, and I suspect the upstream recommendation is stale. That sentence in the README has been around since 2021, when it said "version 12". It was bumped to "version 20" in November 2024. Meanwhile, GitHub itself has deprecated Node 20 on its actions runners and switched to Node 24 by default: https://github.blog/changelog/2025-09-19-deprecation-of-node-20-on-github-actions-runners/ Maybe you could do a bit of digging to see if that last paragraph could be removed. | |

Thanks for looking into this, I checked the implementation a bit deeper
as well.
The code itself doesn't care which Node version is installed. It uses
the Go module actions-oss/act-cli to run actions, which invokes
whatever node is in PATH. The node20/node16 references that I can see
there are test fixtures [1], not runtime constraints [2] [3].
So the README line is the only version-specific requirement, as you
found, and it is in fact just stale. For what it's worth, I've run this
for a week or so without any issues on Node 24.
