Aquantia (now Marvell) AQtion devices are multi-gigabit PCIe Ethernet controllers supporting speeds up to 10 Gb/s.
They are found on workstation and desktop motherboards, and add-in NICs.

Aquantia published a FreeBSD driver for its first-generation "Atlantic" controllers, but it was unmaintained for some time.
FreeBSD developers contributed some fixes to the vendor's repository, but several pull requests were never addressed.
The driver was available in the ports collection as package:net/aquantia-atlantic-kmod[], with some additional patches, but it was not part of the base system and lacked support for newer devices.

Ed Maste imported a snapshot of the vendor driver, applied patches from unmerged pull requests and the port, wrote an man:aq[4] man page, and connected it to the build.

Since then, Nick Price added support for the second-generation Atlantic 2 (AQC113) controllers, and has made extensive fixes and improvements throughout the driver.
These include enabling jumbo frames, software LRO, and suspend/resume; correcting RSS queue distribution and honouring the kernel RSS policy; expanding and fixing checksum and VLAN offloads and VLAN/multicast filtering, hardening the attach, detach, reset, interrupt and RX/TX paths; handling PHY thermal shutdown; and improving diagnostics and link-state reporting.

The driver is available in -CURRENT snapshot images, and has been MFC'd to stable/15 to be included in FreeBSD 15.2.
