Note: GCC versions 8 and 9 have been removed from GNU_COMPILERS because they are marked deprecated in the ports tree and will expire at 2023-12-31 and 2024-06-30 respectively

I think the latter is questionable when the port will still be available for half a year. This part is just about creating symlinks, I think one more doesn't hurt for now?

Agreed, the ports tree is the source of truth. If there is 8 and 9 in the tree, it makes sense to keep them around, I'd say.
