I think it may be a good idea to include a pkg-message explaining why the network module does not work (and eventually other I am not aware, or if some depends of a specific/different setup to work). Or, at very least what is know to not work.

python-pcre currently does support Python 2 and 3:
Oct 18 2017
Since the previous version was python:2 only, I think it is safe to assume a python:3 slave port is currently not necessary.
Reverting it to python:2 but maintaining concurrent for eventual future use.
Oct 17 2017
Oct 10 2017
Adding concurrent to USE_PYTHON.
Oct 6 2017
Remove the devel/py-unittest2 dependency, switch 'regression-test:' to 'do-test:'.
Oct 5 2017
Removing py-coverage and py-flake8 from TEST_DEPENDS.
A closer look in the setup.py and it seems flake8 nor coverage are actually not necessary.
